  • Capitol District:  This area contains most of the federal, state, and city governmental buildings.
  • Central Business District:  This area contains most of the headquarters of Hawaii-based companies and many of the skyscrapers.  A unique feature of this area is Fort Street Mall, a paved public walkway surrounded by retail shops and restaurants.  A popular area for Hawaii Pacific University students to grab a bite before class.
  • Chinatown:  A popular area of Chinese cultural contact on Oahu, the Chinatown neighborhood is home to the open-air Oahu Market, unique shops and restaurants, as well as the beautiful and historic Hawai’i Theater.  This downtown neighborhood is also very popular for the First Friday Honolulu Art Walks.
  • Waterfront:  This area centers around Aloha Tower, a retired lighthouse which previously held the title of Hawaii’s tallest building.  Cruise ships would dock at the Aloha Tower area before the advent of air travel.  Today, the Aloha Tower facility has been modernized and has a variety of retail shops and waterfront restaurants.  Hawaii Pacific University has purchased and is continuing to redevelop the space.
