As the most isolated community on Oahu, Makaha has long been a place for those who want to get away from it all. Those who have made their home here know exactly what they’ve found — crystal clear blue Pacific waters; perfect surfing waves; dramatic mountain views; and unbeatable sunsets. The wide beaches vie with the green mountaintops in shaping Makaha’s identity. It is definitely a nature lover’s Shangri-la. On its face, it is a sleepy bedroom community, steeped in tradition, with fiercely protective locals. But Makaha has its share of diversity, from single family and multi-generational homes, to towering condominiums, to luxurious gated neighborhoods. And although surfing might be what Makaha is most famous for, one shouldn’t overlook the hiking, scuba, fishing, or golfing opportunities.
